100% of our Eligible Seniors Graduated in 2021

July 7, 2021

After a challenging year of remote and hybrid learning, the youth in our programs have defied the odds again this year. According to a 2016 study from Schoolhouse Connection, the national graduation rate for youth experiencing homelessness is around 64%. But this year, 100% of eligible seniors in our programs graduated from high school! Year after we see a 100% graduation rate from the youth in our programs, and we’re thankful that youth have continued to achieve their educational goals even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Four seniors from Second Story for Homeless Youth and nine from the Culmore Teen Center graduated this spring. Nine of them will be attending college, including all four seniors from Second Story for Homeless Youth, and four will be working. We are so proud of each one of them!

“[Staff] are so proud of all that our graduates have accomplished during this challenging school year,” shares Michelle Stitt, Program Manager of Second Story for Homeless Youth. “They truly have showed resilience and dedication by not only graduating on time but also living independently and working. We are excited to see what comes next for them.”

Will you help us support youth as they prepare for another school year? Each year we collect school supplies to help support the youth in our programs. If you’d like to help prepare youth for learning this next year, please email us.

I want to help!
